This afternoon, a few of my fellow Viners and I resurrected The Vinecast, for a very special recording. We interviewed Zaki, Newsvine's self-proclaimed first international correspondent.
Zaki traveled to Afghanistan in September, and taught for three months at a French school in Kabul. While there, he produced riveting accounts of his journey on his Newsvine column, in which many of us saw for the first time what life is really like in this almost forgotten (to most Americans) country.
We sat down with him to discuss the people he met, the society he lived in, and the changes his time in Kabul brought upon him, among many other things.
If you've had the opportunity to read Zaki's story, or even if you haven't, you will not want to miss this podcast.

Yeah!!! The Vinecast is back! Zaki has a really interesting story, and I would definitely recommend listening to it. BTW, I like the new logo Dom!
I can't wait to get home and listen to it. Hopefully you guys can figure out the kinks with the Skypecast so we can listen in next time. I think an interesting interview would be with Ansab.
I want to thank Dom Pody and all concerned for putting this program together. I have been involved in such before, just never knew it was a Podcast. I was part of a panel on NPR years ago to interview the founder of Thirdage.com but this one was special. I still don't understand exactly about how to hook up to the various sites for conferencing but I have the capability. I have both SkypeIn and Out. This is a great idea and I will be looking forward to future projects. Dom, I don't like to be a joiner or to make commitments beyond my ability but I will gladly attend on a regular basis when you need to fill a spot. Thank all of you for being here.
Definitely second that, oldfogey.
I expected it to come with a full transcript guys. The logo looks professional enough to give the old WKRP Cincinnati crowd a run for their money. Wish I could listen now but I'll grab a box of cookies on the way back to make a full party of it.
Fantastic, I am so glad you guys have done this! Thanks.
Sorry Maaz, I forgot to give you a shoutout. :P
Wooooohoooo!!!! I'm listening right now!
Loved ofdfogey's first question about Zaki's first night in Kabul. Interesting response.
Zaki, hate to tell you, but there is an accent. Very cute! No, you don't sound like a French chef!
Larry & Andrew - Great questions - both the political and the personal. You covered a lot of ground.
Zaki - Your observations are amazing. Very insightful. I appreciate the emotional aspect you shared.
Dom - Thanks for coordinating all of this. It's a lot of work and you pulled it off quite well. I really enjoyed it!
Nice Vinecast, guys. Finally had a chance to listen to it today.
Oh, and Mr. Q., thanks for the thanks, but it was nothing. The real thanks go to Winsome and all the Viners who contributed.
Fantastic interview, great voices too. Dom, you have a fantastic interview manner and the perspective was phenomenal, Zaki you should be on tour. Your insights and articulate explanations leap beyond the confusion of media coverage to give an eye wittiness view even more powerfully than your writing.
I am so impressed and so glad I got the chance to listen. Zaki, the accent is icing on the cake, love that! I am especially happy to have the mystery of the chickens solved and I'll be looking for the pictures. So happy to have you on the vine and Zaki, welcome home. Never stop writing and Dom, you're on to something wonderful. Now that I can connect to hear you've got a regular, thanks all!!!
